Functions in Symbolic Computation

On the analysis side, existing computer-algebra systems are typically based on elementary functions. Despite the success of this approach and the fact that its development is by no means complete, we argue that the time is ripe to begin putting substantial research effort into developing systems based on algebraic differential equations.
