Drosophila melanogaster ninaE gene promoter region

This is the promoter involved in the development of a specific expression pattern of complex insect eye. This rather short sequence contains repeated palindromic word TGCGCA, for which the 30% difference is Z-scores is observed in the case of double stranded counting. However, the ranking of 6-letter motive does not change. This is one of the variants of eye opsins, that are expressed in some specific ommatidia. There are six type of rhodopsins in Drosophilla eye with a complex expression pattern in different ommatidia of a complex eye. This makes an excellent model of studying the tissue specific expression, due to the efficient promoter sequence that can bring to expression the genetically engineered reporter genes. The late stages of eye development are more or less independent from the other differentiation processes. The differentiation process to a functional eye is switched on by few master regulators.
