ideal(s) programming language(s) for studying algorithms

Let me present myself. I do some research about some topics of Logic, but I
am not an experienced programmer. Until 1988, I did some small programs in
the languages Fortran, Pascal, DBase II, LISP and PROLOG.
Now I am going to study and give some classes about Algorithmics, for which
I intend to adopt "Introduction to Algorithms", written by Thomas Cormen, as
the main textbook.
At the same time, I would like to implement some of the algorithms proposed
in this book.
So, I ask you: what is(are) the ideal(s) programming language(s) for
learning and implementing algorithms?
If there is more than one answer, please give me the advantages and
disadvantages of each possible choice.

Yours,
